Becky Mull - August 20, 2009
Rebecca “Becky” Jane Mull, 48, of Haxtun, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at Haxtun Hospital District after a long battle with cancer.
Becky was born the daughter of Gustav G. and Charlene (Langston) Lippert on Nov. 6, 1960 in Wray. She was raised in rural Idalia and attended Idalia Schools, graduating in 1979.
She moved to Sterling where she attended cosmetology school at Northeastern Junior College. She married Kirby Honstead in 1980 and to this union two children were born.
Following her divorce, Becky married Donald Mull in June of 1990. The couple enjoyed 18 years of marriage until Don’s death in July of 2008.
Becky put her family above all else and took great pride in her grandchildren. She especially loved attending their school events when her health allowed.
She and Don spent many summers at Julesburg Dragstrip. The couple made many friends and memories at the strip where Becky raced and Don worked on her cars. Their hobby took them to several tracks including Bandimere Speedway, Morrison; Douglas Motorsports Park, Douglas, Wyo.; and Brainerd International Raceway and Resort, Brainerd, Minn.
She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, playing keyboard, playing cards and caring for her dogs.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband and sister Rhonda Switlik.
She is survived by her parents; daughter Spring Mull and Jeremy Atchison, Haxtun; sons SPC Preston Honstead and fiancé SPC Teresa Kinney, Augusta, Ga. and Brett Mull and wife Claire, Sterling; grandchildren Brittany Mull, Las Vegas, Nev.; Chelsi, Devon and Tori Mull, Fleming; and Haleigh Ball, Augusta; brother Richard Lippert and Bobbie Blankenship, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; brothers-in-law Bill Switlik, Cameron, Mo. and Richard and Sue Mull, Dallas Center, Iowa; nieces Jessica, Dana and Jamie Switlik, Cameron; nephew Pvt. Richard Lippert, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; and special family friends Jan and Dennis Workman, Haxtun. The loss of Becky will be mourned by many who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 25 at Prairie Home Baptist Church in Haxtun with Pastor Frank Tamasy officiating. Interment followed at Haxtun Cemetery. Gerk Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
