Victor Yost - December 27, 2008


Victor James Yost, age 88, of Sterling, died Dec. 27, 2008 in Sterling.
Victor was born in Haxtun to Henry and Anna (Nolde) Yost Oct. 22, 1920. He graduated from Sterling High School. He married Pauline Long Sept. 21, 1941 in Sterling.
Victor had a life-long love of farming and farmed in the Haxtun area. The couple was blessed with two children: Linda and Victoria.
Pauline died July 12, 1977. Victor later married Wilma Mutchie in December of 1979. They lived in Haxtun until 1999 when they retired and moved into their new home in Sterling. They also spent a good deal of time traveling to Texas and Alaska, where they acquired many friends along the way. Wilma died in May of 2007.
Victor was an active member of the Haxtun and Fleming Farmer’s Coop and a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golf and most of all fishing. He liked sitting on his porch and just enjoying the outdoors. The weather was also of great interest to him.
Victor is preceded in death by his parents, wives Pauline and Wilma and his brothers.
Surviving him are his daughters Linda Vizenor and husband Del of Soldotna, Alaska and Victoria Johnson and husband Garnie of McMinnville, Ore.; grandchildren Julee Pickering and husband Gordon of La Pine, Ore., Portia Sue Kalinka and husband Randee of Chilton, Wis., Jill Barnhart and husband Dan of Wasilla, Alaska, Kristin and wife Alison Hansen of Anchorage, Alaska and Justin Hansen of Eagle River, Alaska; great-grandchildren Emily Pickering, Kyle Pickering and Makenna Hansen; step-son Larry Grauberger and wife Carol; step-grandchildren Traci and husband Josh Middel, Samantha Grauberger and Ashley Grauberger; step-great-grandchild Erika Middel; and special friend Rachel Quesada.
Visitation for Victor was scheduled Wednesday, Dec. 31 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun.
Funeral Service will be Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Haxtun United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Haxtun Cemetery.
