Clancy Stout - October 15, 2009

Clarence P. Stout (Clancy) was born to Robert and Mamie Stout in their home on N. Phelan Street in Holyoke on April 21, 1921. He died Oct. 15, 2009 at the age of 88.

Clancy attended Holyoke schools where he was active in music, debate club and school plays. At the suggestion of the band instructor, in 1934 he received his first bass clarinet at a cost of $150 that came as an extreme sacrifice for the family. This began his lifelong love of music as he received his degree in music education, played in a U.S. Army band, had his own dance band, taught instrumental music and then worked as a piano technician.

Clarence met Bernice Brinkman from Tecumseh, Neb. They were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, Neb. July 9, 1944. After a two-day honeymoon in Estes Park, they came to Holyoke to help Clarence’s parents finish wheat harvest, returning to Lincoln when his 15-day furlough from the army was over.

They later returned to Holyoke to operate the family farm. To this union were born three children: Nancy, Roger and Denise, all who were born and raised in Holyoke.

Clarence was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holyoke, Wray Elks Club and Piano Technician Guild. Later Clarence and Bernice enjoyed spending many winters in Arizona.

He is survived by wife, Bernice Stout of Holyoke; children, Nancy Kennedy and husband Jack of Holyoke, Roger Stout and wife Barbara of Alpharetta, Ga. and Denise Wozniak and husband Jim of Littleton; grandchildren, Anita Dow and husband DeWane of Holdrege, Neb., Dan Kennedy and wife Leah of Brush, Celena Kennedy of Sterling, Chrissy Wells and husband Jeff of Suwanee, Ga. and Heidi Partlowe of Chandler, Ariz.; and six great-grandchildren, Evan and Aaron Dow, Abigail, Hannah and Madilyn Kennedy, Rebecca Jewel Kennedy, Jordan and Katelyn Wells and Kira Partlowe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Holyoke United Methodist Church.

Funeral service was scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Pastor Paul Sung officiating. Interment was to follow in Holyoke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to First United Methodist Church, 230 E. Furry, Holyoke, CO 80734.
