Lonnie Ayres - October 23, 2009
Lonnie Ralph Ayres, 63, died Oct. 23, 2009 at his home in Holyoke. He was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kan. to Bob Evans and Juanita Downing, and was later adopted by Clarence Ayres.
He finished most of high school. He married Vera Hieber, and they had one son, John Kim. Lonnie resided in Kansas, Oregon and Colorado during his lifetime.
He had many jobs, but the two he most enjoyed were delivering new school buses for Collins, Inc. and volunteering for The Salvation Army.
Lonnie’s hobbies included carving on tree limbs to make canes and walking sticks. He loved to read science fiction books, and he also collected lots of movies.
His greatest interest in his last few years was his adopted family. He loved spoiling his adopted grandkids and spending time with them.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Bob Evans, Juanita Jenkins and Clarence Ayres.
He is survived by his son John Kim Ummel of Hutchinson, Kan.; grandson Brandon John Ummel of Hutchinson; granddaughter Kathryn Dawn Ummel of Hutchinson; brothers Bobby Ayres and Kenny and wife Penny, all of Hutchinson; sister Lori Gulley and husband David of Holyoke; adopted daughter Pam Peregoy and husband Lonny of Holyoke; adopted grandchildren Nathan, Natasha and Natray Peregoy of Holyoke; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A memorial service is planned Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Holyoke, with pastors Paul Sung and Darrell Dennis officiating.
