Emma Wiebke - October 25, 2009
Emma T. Wiebke, 98, of Cook, Neb., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Neb.
She was born to Menne and Elesabe (Miller) Spanjer Jan. 28, 1911, near Burr, Neb. She grew up in the Burr area and lived her entire life in the Burr and Cook communities. She attended Cook Public Schools through the 10th grade.
She was united in marriage to Martin Wiebke Jan. 28, 1934, at Burr. Martin died Sept. 6, 1977.
Emma was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Cook. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She particularly loved embroidery and quilting. She made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren, as well as many others.
When her health began to decline, she became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh in November of 2005.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin Wiebke; six brothers; five sisters; sons Everett and Ralph; daughter Sandra Armknecht; grandsons Duane Riensche and David Wiebke; great-grandson Marty Keebler; and son-in-law Robert Saathoff.
She is survived by daughters Marilyn Saathoff of Sterling, Neb. and Eunice Weible and husband Gary of Richland, Wash.; sons Robert Wiebke and wife Carol of Cook, Stanley Wiebke and wife Beverly of Cook, Charles Wiebke and wife Elizabeth of Dubuque, Iowa and Ivan Wiebke and wife Julie of Holyoke; son-in-law Jim Armknecht of Talmage, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandson.
Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Cook at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, with Rev. Steven Billington officiating. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Interment will be in the Helena Cemetery, west of Cook.
