2023 Governor’s Plate competition to be held at Colorado State Fair on Aug. 29

olorado have been selected to compete during the 2023 Governor’s Plate competition at the Colorado State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Three returning favorites and three new contestants will be vying to wow Gov. Jared Polis and event attendees with sample-sized dishes created with Colorado Proud ingredients. Governor Polis will award the Governor’s Plate to a winning truck. Competitors will also battle for the coveted People’s Choice Award.

“It’s time for our grown-in-Colorado food truck contest! Talented chefs prepare Colorado Proud produce from around the state. Colorado is the proud home to world-class chefs and delicious local ingredients, which makes this event so exciting. When it comes to produce, meat, grain and dairy products, nobody does it better than Colorado, and I can’t wait to taste what everyone cooks up this year,” said Polis.

The following food trucks will compete to win the Governor’s Plate and People’s Choice awards:

— Anne’s A La Mode (Edgewater), the returning 2022 champion, will serve an apple pie with Pueblo green chili and aged white cheddar. Flour is sourced from Moxie Bread Company’s mill in Boulder, with apples and green chili from Longmont. 

— Papa Mario’s Grilled Cheese (Pueblo), the 2022 People’s Choice winner and the triple winner of the 2021 competition, will serve the Tiff Special, a roast beef sandwich with onions, green chile, and jalapeños from Musso Farms in Pueblo.

— Stoke Pizza (Pueblo) is back to serve a wood-fired chorizo, elote and green chile pizza sourced with flour from Boulder, cheese from Springside Cheese Shop in Pueblo, and green chiles, onions and jalapeños from Musso Farms in Pueblo. 

— The Smoke ‘N’ CEO (Grand Junction) will serve a green chile slider smash burger made with green chiles from Pueblo and beef from a Grand Junction ranch, where the cattle are fed with spent grain from a local brewery.

— Araujo’s Taqueria (Pueblo) will serve a samosa stuffed with beans, ground beef, cheese and Pueblo green chile, served with a vegan side of calabacitas (squash) and corn sourced from Musso Farms and DiSanti Farm in Pueblo.

— Grateful Planet Foods (Castle Rock) will serve a plant-based French dip sandwich with seitan proteins made in Lakewood and baguettes made by Aspen Bakery in Denver.
