4-H members attend conference; Vieselmeyer speaks at Capitol

Seven Phillips County 4-H members traveled to Denver Saturday-Monday, Jan. 28-30, for the Leadership Development Conference and State 4-H Day at the Capitol. The attending 4-H members were Drew Stewart, Morganne Kumm, Kylie Donovan, Rebecca Owens, Janessa Lutze, Lauren Bergner and Alex Vieselmeyer.
The main focus of this year’s conference was researching and debating the pros and cons of actual bills that have been introduced in the State Legislature.
Each group was assigned a bill and whether to debate the pro or con side of the bill. The debates were held on the second day of the conference. Following each debate, a vote was held to see if the bill passed or failed. The winning group had the honor of presenting their opening statement during 4-H Day at the State Capitol in the Old Supreme Court Chambers.
Alex Vieselmeyer presented the opening statement for his group, which debated the pro side of House Bill 16-1324 concerning the availability of compounded pharmaceutical drugs for use by a veterinarian to treat a patient’s emergency situation. This group won their debate, which allowed Vieselmeyer to give his opening statement at the Capitol.
