Memorial Day service pays tribute to local veterans

A crowd gathered at the Holyoke Cemetery on Memorial Day, May 29, to honor Holyoke veterans. Terry Barth, commander of the local American Legion and VFW posts, opened the service with introductions, as a pre-recorded Memorial Honor Roll was read in the background. Pastor Mike Brown offered a Memorial Day prayer, and his daughters Emmy and Elly Brown sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.“ Pictured above, guest speaker Lt. Col. Bob Russell delivered a moving speech, vividly recalling some of the sacrifices made by the remembered veterans in the performance of their duties. This was followed by placing of the memorial wreaths before the audience. Pictured above, the Honor Guard members prepare to make their salute.
