Dragon volleyball defeated Wiggins at home Oct. 11 in four sets — 25-22, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-21.

Coach Vanessa Tharp was pleased with the victory, but didn’t think any of the sets should have been so close. “I didn’t think it was our best performance, but we came away with a win,” she said.

Tharp noted that the Dragons faltered at some aspects in which they normally excel. “We struggled with passing and our serve receives,” she said.

Overall though, she emphasized her team’s perseverance. “We just kept pushing through. We never gave up and played every point,” she said.

Holyoke began the game with a 25-22 win in the first set. The Dragons fell behind 9-16, then scored four straight points to cut the deficit to three, and later tied the game at 17 with a four-point run.

The two teams were tied at 21 when the Dragons went on a three-point run. They closed out the Tigers in the first set with a three-point win.
