Harold Reim

Harold Max Reim, former longtime resident of Colorado, passed away June 17, 2023, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, Minnesota. He was 95.

Harold was born Dec. 13, 1927, to Herman and Gertrude (Hennig) Reim, who farmed near Memphis, Nebraska. Postgraduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and qualified as an electronic technician’s mate. After WWII service in the Pacific, he completed a B.S. degree in agriculture at UN-Lincoln in June 1951.

He bought seed and managed grain elevators in the Dakotas and Minnesota until meeting his future wife, Audrey Jacobson, in Roseau, Minnesota. They farmed west of Wannaska, Minnesota, while welcoming three children. Harold was also an AI technician for American Breeders Service as their dairy herd grew.

The family moved to Colorado in 1970 due to their children’s health problems. He was a herdsman at several dairies in the Greeley area, including for Bill Wailes Sr. Through the 1980s, he was the operating partner of Reim Dairy Inc. in Canon City. Harold was known for encouraging and mentoring many of the young people passing through as employees.

In his retirement years, he returned to herdsman duties in northeast Colorado, finishing his long career in agriculture at the Double W Dairy Farm of Holyoke.

Harold lived in Little Falls for the past 10 years, moving to be close to family after his wife, Audrey, passed away.

He was cremated and will be interred in Golden Valley Township, Wannaska, Minnesota, with a Celebration of Life at the Roseau Community Church on Aug. 19, 1-4 p.m.

He is survived by a brother, Kenneth Reim of Las Vegas, Nevada; children, Kristine (Doug) LaBorde of Pierz, Minnesota, Kathryn (Greg) Reeves of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Kent Reim of Aitkin, Minnesota; and grandchildren, Emily (Paul) Elias, Amanda Reeves, and Daniel and Joseph LaBorde.
