Dragons face Burlington with strong force, fall 60-68

Just as clouds from the dust storm of Dec. 2 start to settle in, so does the determined and gritty pursuit of the Holyoke High School boys basketball team. In the midst of the dust storm, their first varsity game fell to a cancellation by St. Francis due to hazardous conditions. However, this did not stop Lone Star from bringing their junior varsity and varsity teams to play against Holyoke’s JV and C teams. The next day, Dec. 3, all three of the boys teams competed with a strong force against the Burlington Cougars.

Holyoke’s JV team played effective defense against the Lone Star Longhorns varsity team. During the first quarter, they kept the score within a 10-point distance. A score of 5-14 was finalized after the first quarter, with the Dragons at 5 and the competitor Longhorns at 14. After the first quarter, they kept their strength up through the coach’s rotations. Notably, they communicated as a team both efficiently and quickly.

The second quarter followed much like the first with Holyoke maintaining a score distance of less than 10. With the Dragons facing a score of 17-26 at half time, some extra motivation was enabled, and thus the game continued.
