Holyoke track team continues ascent in three April meets

Max Kleve ties for 2nd in the state for 100-meter dash

Displayed on April 17, 20 and 22, Holyoke’s high school track team continues to make leaps and bounds as they near the end of the season, completing eight of the 14 meets before State. The three meets from April’s latter half were full of broken personal records, qualifying scores and even a school record.

Chappell Tri-State Invitational

On April 17 at the Chappell Tri-State Invitational, the Dragon boys placed sixth overall, while the girls placed eighth as a team. A major highlight from the meet was Max Kleve breaking the 400-meter school record, running at 49.44 seconds; this would have qualified him for State had the meet not been in Nebraska. Later, Max tried something new – the high jump – where he cleared 5 feet, 9 inches, which also would have qualified him for State if not for the out-of-state meet.

The boys’ 4x800-meter placed in the top three with a second-place standing at 11:14.06 minutes. Sophomore Luis Perez started the relay off, and after running two laps around the track, he handed the baton off to Ben Austin. Isaac Cummings followed Austin. Anchor Mason Sprague then took it away, running the fastest 800-meter out of the relay team with 2:39.4 minutes.

For the girls, freshman Annessa Colglazier took first in the 200-meter, running at 27.06 seconds. Audrey Talavera had a new personal record in the same event, running at 30.22 seconds, followed by Courtlynn Kinnie with 31.15 seconds. Placing third in the 4x100-meter relay, Talavera, Isabelle Kropp, Ellie Kleve and Colglazier ran under a minute with nearly six seconds to spare at 54.75.
