Win over Wray gives girls No. 3 spot heading into districts

It was a replay of two games earlier in the season, but this time district rankings were on the line.
For the second time this year, Holyoke girls varsity basketball was bested by Yuma, 26-34, at their last home game of the season Tuesday, Feb. 14.
However, their regular season ended on a positive note on the road Friday, Feb. 17, when the Lady Dragons snagged a repeat win over Wray, 40-35.
It was an important win. Holyoke and Wray both sat at 5-2 in district standings, a tie for third place. But since Holyoke had beat Wray in a head-to-head game, the Lady Dragons scored the No. 3 seed, pushing Wray back to No. 4.
Haxtun and Yuma were tied at 6-1, with Haxtun winning the tiebreaker for the No. 1 spot.
The top three teams from this weekend’s district tournament will advance to regionals. Look for district coverage in next week’s Enterprise.

Holyoke 26, Yuma 34
A large crowd was in the home stands last Tuesday for Holyoke’s Pink-Out game against Yuma.
The Dragons started out down 0-8, something that’s not easy to come back from. But they battled to the end of the first quarter, with 10 points on the scoreboard compared to Yuma’s 12.
