Earth Day winners awarded

The Natural Resources Conservation Service Earth Team is a volunteer program that uses volunteer time, talent and energy to help accomplish the NRCS mission of helping people help the land. This year marked the program’s 12th year celebrating Earth Day Saturday, April 22, with Earth Day Coloring Contest worksheets. The focus this year was on Colorado agriculture and the top 10 commodities, of which cattle/calves is No. 1.

Coloring sheets were given to the Fleming, Haxtun and Holyoke schools. They were divided into two age groups, grades K-2 and 3-5. Winners were chosen from each class of each school. Then, they were also sent to the state to be entered into the state contest.

The children were awarded a certificate and an Earth cookie made by Heidi’s and donated by the Haxtun Conservation District.
