FBLA celebrates successful 2016-17 year

Holyoke Future Business Leaders of America celebrated its members at its 2017 awards ceremony and officer installation Friday, April 28.

A slideshow of the chapter’s activities through the year played in the background as tomorrow’s business men and women were recognized for their FBLA membership and achievements.

Special chapter awards were presented by adviser Lori Nelson, with Tyler Lamm receiving the 2017 Outstanding New Member award and Kayla Marshall receiving 2017 Outstanding Senior Member.

In addition, members received certificates of achievement for their performances at the district and state level from competitions earlier in the year. All 33 FBLA members received membership certificates as well.

It was also announced at the ceremony that Mariah Pell, Bailey Hamaker and Mackenzie Golden were bumped up to compete at nationals in Anaheim, California, June 29-July 2 with their community service project, which had received sixth place at state.

They will be joining other national qualifiers Josie Herman, Shianne Willmon and Emily Jelden, second in American enterprise; and Kaitlyn Shafer, Tara Krueger and Megan Humphreys, third in business plan.

Friends of FBLA were also recognized at the ceremony. “Behind the scenes, there are a lot of people that work to make FBLA what it is,” said Nelson. Holyoke Marketplace, Holyoke Lions Club, Holyoke Enterprise and Marla Camblin all received Friend of FBLA certificates and pens.
