4-H livestock judging team brings home state championship

The Phillips County 4-H livestock judging team took first place overall at the Colorado 4-H state conference livestock judging contest Wednesday, June 22, in Fort Collins at Colorado State University’s Agriculture Research, Development and Education Center.

Phillips County took six members, age 14 to 18, to the state conference. Lucinda Mares, Brooklyn Plumb, Kellum Carnahan and Bradie Midcap (who is from Yuma County) competed as a team, and Brock Miller and Addison Oliver participated as individuals.

The Phillips County 4-H livestock judging team was first in beef, first in hogs, first in reasons, first in placings of classes, second in sheep and goats, and — most notably — first overall.

Two of the team members earned first and second place in the contest with their teammates ranking closely behind that. There were only seven points between high individual Bradie Midcap and her teammate, Kellum Carnahan, who placed second.
