Agriculture stakeholder’s meeting to address mental health awareness

The Community Resource Department of Centennial Mental Health Center will be hosting a stakeholder’s meeting with the agriculture community to address mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The meeting will take place Friday, Dec. 6, from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Sterling Livestock Commission located at 20197 Riverside Drive in Sterling. This initial meeting will be an opportunity for members of the agriculture community to offer input and expertise to guide prevention work in the rural counties of northeast Colorado. Scheduling of subsequent meetings to continue to conversation will also be discussed.

According to Maranda Miller, prevention services program manager, “Suicide rates are much higher in rural communities than in urban areas. This makes it increasingly more critical that those working to prevent suicide and increase awareness about mental health work with the agriculture community. These topics can be uncomfortable to talk about but truly those working in our agriculture communities can have a tremendous impact with guiding the prevention efforts.”
