Bean harvest picks up the pace
After Ken Tomky of Lamar, Nebraska, delivered the first load of pinto beans to Jacks Bean Company in Holyoke last Thursday, Sept. 2, the area bean harvest has really started to ramp up. On Tuesday, Sept. 7, Tom Harmon, general manager of Jacks Bean, said the nice weather in the forecast will allow producers to make a lot of progress this week. He noted that the quality and yields are looking good so far. In addition to pinto beans, the company took in the first load of light red kidneys on Tuesday.
