Bushels of Fun at the Phillips County Fair

From mutton bustin’ to bull fighting and everything in between, the July 24-28 Phillips County Fair was all about fun.

Fair events included a ranch rodeo, corn hole tournament, barrel racing, Heartland Pulling truck and tractor pull, Bulls Gone Wild!, mutton bustin’, horseshoe pitching, church service, barbecue, inflatables, petting zoo, kids games, model rocket launch, salsa contest and American Ninja Warrior obstacle course.

Leading the “Bushels of Fun” parade on Holyoke’s Interocean Avenue were grand marshals Lee and Bev Struckmeyer. The float by Better Beef Makers 4-H Club took grand champion honors, and queen Janessa Lutze and princess Megan Walker represented Phillips County as fair royalty.

This was the second year the new Bank of Colorado Pavilion was put to use at the fair, with features including animal pens, a livestock show arena and a concessions stand. A brand new light-up sign, constructed in memory of former County Administrator Randy Schafer, greeted visitors at the entrance to the Phillips County Fairgrounds.

It takes a great deal of work to put on an event like the Phillips County Fair, and local communities can be proud of their support, participation and volunteerism.

The Holyoke Enterprise is pleased to provide this commemorative edition to showcase the leadership and dedication represented in projects completed for the fair.
