Chaplain recognized

In March 2018, Dee Walker started working part-time as chaplain for Hospice of the Plains. In May 2020, she became full-time, and Hospice is uplifting her during National Clergy/Chaplain Appreciation Month.

Walker’s position is inimitable. Every visit is different; every situation has different elements to it. The duties of the chaplain are listening to worries, fears, hopes and grief, and providing comfort, counseling and spiritual guidance in response to issues. Walker counts it as a privilege.

“The last six months has averaged driving 1,522 miles a month and spending 140 hours a month in my work.  Becoming familiar with northeast Colorado is a side benefit of my job, although sometimes I feel like I must be homeless or why else would I be spending so much time in my car? I am trusting God in a new way to guide me as never before as I meet with and visit with people from all walks of life over the telephone and in person,” Walker said.
