Elementary students get handsy at 2018 AgFest hosted by CSU Extension

Fifth-grader Nicole Schlachter gives a firm squeeze to simulate milking a cow at one of the AgFest workshops last Friday. On May 4, elementary students from Holyoke, Wray, Julesburg, Revere and Creek Valley learned about various aspects of agriculture from CSU Extension experts. And, yes, it was often hands-on. Using such things as trivia, a fake life-size cow, dioramas and living plants, presenters taught lessons in engaging and creative ways. Going from one station to another at the Phillips County Event Center, students learned about dairy, range ecology, beef, microbes, groundwater, honey bees and much more.
