County looking to control roadside Palmer amaranth

Phillips County Road & Bridge Department and the Weed & Pest District are seeking information regarding location of broadleaf sensitive crops for the purpose of making pre-emergent applications to control Palmer amaranth on the roadside.
Kerri Doleshall with the Weed & Pest District said they are attempting to control this troublesome weed before it becomes a problem for producers.
He noted there are chemical-resistant varieties of Palmer amaranth. “We do not want those species to become established in Phillips County,” he emphasized.
They are asking landowners who will be planting sugar beets or beans to provide them with the locations of those crops so they can make pre-emergent applications along the field edges from the roadside to help prevent the emergence of this species.
