Creative moms bring something new to Olde Holyoke Square

From a crafting hobby to an online store to a small booth and finally to a 600-square-foot boutique, Jak & Liz has slowly grown into the business that it is today. And owners Jenny Oberle-Molina and Kelcie Yockey are excited to provide something new and different to Holyoke shoppers.

Located in Olde Holyoke Square at 221 N. Interocean Ave., Jak & Liz features women’s and children’s clothing, accessories, jewelry, home decor and Dragons apparel. Many of the items were designed and hand-made by the owners themselves. There are limited quantities of each item, and stock is updated at least twice a month. When something’s gone, it’s gone, they explained, but the goal is to keep new things coming.

Jak & Liz is open anytime Inklings and More Bookstore is open. In addition to the items they have in stock, Oberle-Molina and Yockey do customized orders as well. To inquire about bespoke products, contact them at 970-774-4075 or jak_liz19@hotmail.com. They can also be reached via their Facebook page @JakAndLiz.

Both of the women live in Haxtun with their families. Yockey and her husband, Michael, farm. Oberle-Molina is the director of Haxtun Chamber of Commerce, and her husband, Tracy, works for CHS.

The name “Jak & Liz” is meant to represent their families. “Jak” comes from Jakson, Yockey’s 3-year-old son. “Liz” comes from Oberle-Molina’s 11-year-old daughter Emma-Leigh Elizabeth.

In addition to being business owners and moms, the two are passionate about being part of the community and giving back. Both are members of Haxtun Lions Club and volunteer with Old Fashioned Saturday Night and Haxtun Corn Festival.

To them, though, community is about more than just what’s happening in Haxtun. They’re impressed by the talent in Holyoke and the entire area.

“We all live in Phillips County,” Oberle-Molina said, “if we all support small businesses, we all succeed.”

With such a passion for all things local, it’s almost surprising that neither of the women are native to the area. Yockey grew up in Iowa, and Oberle-Molina in Hawaii. Both of their husbands are from the Haxtun area, though. Coincidentally, both families moved to Haxtun in the summer of 2016, and it wasn’t long before the future business partners met and became friends.
