CSU Extension hosting seed workshop April 27

CSU Extension is hosting a Seed Saving Workshop in support of Burlington’s Seed Lending Library on Saturday, April 27, at the Burlington Library, 321 14th Street, from 10-11 a.m.
According to Suzanne Ashworth, author of “Seed to Seed,” from 1984-1987, 54 of the 230 mail-order seed companies in the United States and Canada went out of business. Unfortunately, many seed collections were dropped as a result. To be exact, 943 nonhybrid varieties were lost.
Organizations such as the Seed Savers Exchange put together “Garden Seed Inventory,” a catalog of nonhybrid vegetable varieties. Some of the other organizations dedicated to seed saving are Heritage Farm and The Flower and Herb Exchange.
