Dundy County commissioners reverse decision, approve Blackshirt Feeders CUP

Following a second public hearing on the conditional use permit for Blackshirt Feeders’ proposed 100,000-head feedlot, the Dundy County, Nebraska, commissioners approved the feedlot’s CUP application Monday, June 6.

The commissioners had held an earlier public hearing March 16, then denied the CUP April 5.

After Dundy County Attorney Gary Burke alerted the commissioners to “shortcomings” at the April 5 meeting, the commissioners decided to start over, beginning with Monday’s hearing.

Once more, the board listened to a presentation from Settje Agri Services and Engineering about the proposed facility, then heard public testimony for and against the feedlot.

Both sides on testimony largely remained the same.
