Enterprise wins 5 national honors

    Winners of the National Newspaper Association 2019 Better Newspaper Editorial Contest and Better Newspaper Advertising Contest have been announced, and The Holyoke Enterprise earned two firsts, a third and two honorable mentions.
    The Enterprise entry for best special news, sports or feature section or edition was the 2018 Emerald Awards section. It received first in its class of daily and nondaily newspapers with circulation of less than 3,000. Contributing writers and photographers were Brenda Brandt, Darci Tomky and Jes-c French.
    “Well designed and written, this section had good advertising support and was read centric, with good headlines and pull quotes to draw readers in,” judges said. “I liked the resume-like breakouts for each teacher.”
    Also earning first place was the Enterprise entry for best sports section/page in daily and nondaily newspapers with circulation of less than 3,000. Max Levy, Brandt, French and Tomky all contributed to the sports coverage that was included. Judges acknowledged “clever use of space and color.”
    Competing against daily and nondaily newspapers of all sizes, the Enterprise earned third place for best headline writing. Brandt, French, Levy and Tomky contributed.
