Enterprise wins big in state contest

Twenty individual awards paved the way to The Holyoke Enterprise earning two of the three top category awards as well as the highest honor — the General Excellence Award — at the 141st annual convention of the Colorado Press Association.
Contributing staff members were Brenda Brandt, Darci Tomky, Jes-c French, Max Levy and Ashley Sullivan.
The Enterprise competes in the Class 2 division with other weekly newspapers that have a circulation between 1,001-2,000.
For each of its 20 first and second place awards, the Enterprise received points in advertising, photo/design and editorial categories. After adding up all the points, the Enterprise had the most overall and was awarded General Excellence for the second straight year.
Holyoke also went home with the Advertising Sweepstakes Award and the Photo and Design Sweepstakes Award for totaling the most points in those categories.
Eligible entries were published between Nov. 1, 2017, and Oct. 31, 2018.
Brandt, Tomky and French were on hand to accept the awards at a ceremony Saturday evening, April 13, at the Hyatt Regency in Aurora.
Newspaper journalists from around the state gathered for the two-day convention, which included workshops, a trade show and a luncheon with Gov. Jared Polis — all centered around the theme “Better by Association.”
