Staff brings home 21 awards from annual convention of Colorado newspapers

An emphasis on strong community journalism was evident at the 140th annual convention of the Colorado Press Association April 12-14 at the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs — the first year the convention has been outside of the Denver area.
With the help of the strong community it covers, The Holyoke Enterprise was recognized with 21 awards in the annual newspaper contest, including the highest honor called the General Excellence Award.
For each of its 19 first- and second-place awards, the Enterprise received points in three categories — advertising, editorial and photo/design. After adding up all the points, the Enterprise had the most points overall and was recognized with the General Excellence Award in Class 2 — weeklies with circulation between 1,001-2,000.
The Enterprise also received the Advertising Sweepstakes Award for earning the most points in that category.
Entries published between Nov. 1, 2016, and Oct. 31, 2017, were eligible.
Enterprise staff members who accepted the awards Saturday were publisher Brenda Brandt, managing editor Darci Tomky, office manager Ashley Sullivan and reporter Jes-c French.
