Farming Evolution presents numerous speakers, insights

Farming Evolution drew about 120 people each day of the two-day event at Phillips County Event Center last Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 16-17.

They came from several different states — one from as far as Vermont, one from 1,100 miles away and many from about 200 miles away — to learn about soil health, farming practices and more from many presenters who are farmers themselves.

Roy Pfaltzgraff was a local speaker who gave a presentation on marketing nontraditional crops. In discussing his 2,000-acre dryland operation south of Haxtun, he told the crowd that he is planning to raise 14 crops in 2022, which is up from 13 in 2021.

The farm went fully no-till in 1999, and he talked about the variety of products the farm sells, including beauty products, candy, gluten-free mixes and more.

In assisting with the marketing of products, he encouraged farmers to identify their products, their consumers and themselves, with the latter involving the creation of a mission statement, business name and logo.
