FFA earns three 1sts at CDEs

Holyoke FFA competed at the NJC District Career Development Event in Sterling Wednesday, April 5.

Though a “district” contest by name, more than 25 schools from across the state were in attendance. Awards were presented by district as well as overall.

The outcomes for each competing Holyoke team are as follows:
—Veterinary science (team members Jillian Hunter, Rebecca Owens, Kaitlyn Kent and Emily Chaney): first in the district and first place overall.
—Horse judging (Taylor Hendrix, Chase Beckner and Emma Roll): first in the district and sixth overall.
­—Floriculture (Kaylee Camblin, Brenna Sullivan and Savannah Burris): first in the district and ninth overall.
—Ag mechanics (Tobin Moore, Holden Redman, Wyatt McCallum and Colby Purkeypile): second in the district and 17th overall.
—Crops (Tyler Camblin and Tristen Roll): fourth in the district and 10th overall.
—Livestock judging (Janessa Lutze and Alex Vieselmeyer): fifth in the district and 17th overall.

This district contest prepares students for the state CDE contest to be held May 1 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
