FFA members honored, celebrated at banquet

Holyoke FFA members were surrounded by family and friends as they closed the school year with an awards banquet at Phillips County Event Center on Thursday evening, May 20.

Following the meal, members were honored for their achievements over the past year.

The 2021 graduates were recognized, and Haley Van Overbeke and Rylee Schneller, who served as officers their senior year, gave retiring remarks. Other 2020-21 officers were Tuff Sigler, Lauren Herman, Theron Roll, Josie Schlachter, Kristin Vieselmeyer, Ethan Schneller and Kai Siep.

The Dekalb Award, presented each year to a senior, was given to Van Overbeke. Scholarships from FFA alumni were given to Ethan Andersen, Shyanne Conde and Alex Vieselmeyer.

Herman was recognized as this year’s outstanding officer; Schlachter, outstanding junior; Ethan Schneller, outstanding sophomore; Jessie Owens, star greenhand; Andersen, outstanding member; and Conde, most improved member.

American FFA degrees, the highest degree a member may earn, were earned by Janessa Lutze, Kaitlyn Kent and Rebecca Owens.

Andersen earned the state FFA degree, which is the highest degree a student may receive on the state level.

New officers installed for the 2021-22 school year are president Herman, vice president Kristin Vieselmeyer, secretary Schlachter, treasurer Siep, reporter Tamara Penzing, sentinel Roll, parliamentarian Ethan Schneller, and executive committee members Carter Van Overbeke and Jessie Owens.

Chapter scholastic achievement awards were given to the top students in each grade level. Freshmen were Tayla Martin, Jessie Owens, Wyatt Sprague and Carter Van Overbeke. Sophomores were Clover Adler, Erin Andersen, Tamara Penzing, Ethan Schneller and Savannah Vermeulen. Juniors were Herman, Correy Koellner and Kristin Vieselmeyer. Seniors were Haley Van Overbeke and Rylee Schneller.
