Gardner appointed to Helsinki Commission

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) announced he has been appointed to the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission.

The Helsinki Commission consists of 21 commissioners, 18 from the United States Congress and one each from the Departments of State, Defense and Commerce. Gardner was selected by the president of the Senate and joins a bipartisan group of senators on the commission that include Roger Wicker (R-MS), Ben Cardin (D-MD), John Boozman (R-AR), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tom Udall (D-NM) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).

The commission is designed to monitor “compliance with the Helsinki Accords and advanced comprehensive security through promotion of human rights, democracy, and economic, environmental and military cooperation in the 57-nation Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe region.”
