Gerk GrainEdge aims to continue service Lemmon provided

For several years, Darrell Lemmon provided seed treatment services to local farmers, but now Brad and Chris Gerk and their daughter Chandler Gerk have taken up the mantle.

The Gerk family purchased GrainEdge, which is now Gerk GrainEdge, July 1. Farming is a longstanding family business for the Gerks, and they hope seed treatment will be a nice addition to the operation.

Brad’s father, Robert Gerk, moved back to the area in 1968 and farmed until his 1996 retirement. At that point, Brad and his brother Casey took over. In 1999, the brothers split the business, and since then, Brad and his immediate family have continued to farm together.

Chandler graduated from Holyoke High School in 2013, 27 years after her dad did. She worked as a precision farming specialist at Central Plains Equipment from 2019-21. After that, she worked for Valmont, the makers of Valley sprinklers, in McCook, Nebraska, before deciding that she wanted to come home and farm.
