GPRC honors service to the Peerless Theatre/Center

Four awards were presented for service to the Peerless Theatre/Center at the Nov. 19 annual meeting of the Golden Plains Recreation Center.

Held at the Peerless Center, the GPRC meeting also gained viewers on Facebook Live.

Those recognized by the GPRC board were Sherry Simms, Red Carpet Award; Bob Brandt, Star Player Award; Steve and Cherrie Brown, Spirit Award; and Zach Young, Employee of the Year.

Simms recently moved from the community and resigned from her Peerless job the end of October. She was acknowledged for her 16 years of service as an employee and over a decade as manager. “She was key to the whole Peerless,” said board member Tricia Michael in announcing the awards.

Penny Dockins accepted the award for her sister. “Sherry is a very humble person and wouldn’t want her name to be at the top of any list of getting things done,” said Dockins. “She would just want people to know it got done,” she added.

Brandt was recognized as “our go-to guy for anything we’ve needed,” said Michael. She also referenced his assistance with the CineMagic fundraiser.

The Browns’ input on the GPRC history and how grants work has been extremely helpful as the GPRC board moves forward in its restructure phase, Michael acknowledged.

Young has taken on a huge role as media manager, noted Michael in announcing him as the employee of the year. He builds the movies and inputs information to the Veezi system (concessions point of sales software).
