Greatest show on dirt

Kids from both near and far got down and dirty at the Phillips County Showdown in Holyoke on Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5. The third annual livestock show featured hogs, sheep and goats in a variety of classes. There were a total of 681 livestock entries and 280 showmanship entries over the two days. Committee member Kindra Plumb said that everyone really enjoyed Phillips County’s new Bank of Colorado Pavilion and the rest of the fairgrounds complex as well as the welcoming atmosphere shown to them throughout Holyoke. Thanks to local sponsors, the showdown can include prizes for competitors and high-quality judges. Committee members include Jeff and Kindra Plumb, Bobby and Shauna Strecker, Jessie Stewart, Jessica Oliver, Steve Starkebaum, Minda Mares and Jessica Brown. Volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly included the Phillips County 4-H livestock judging team and the Paoli Hustlers 4-H Club. One of the local competitors is Ainsley Kramer, who is proudly showing her sheep in front of the judge Saturday. — Darci Rodriguez | The Holyoke Enterprise
