Harvest well past halfway

Hot, dry conditions have boosted wheat harvest progress to well past the halfway mark in Phillips County, according to area elevator reports.

Perry Campbell with CHS Grainland estimated that 65%-70% of the harvest was complete late Monday afternoon, July 6.

At Paoli Farmers Coop, general manager Steve Bahnsen said they were just past midway Monday.

Due to low yields, Bahnsen said grain runs are very slow. They’re seeing everything from the 20s up into the 40s for bushels-per-acre yields. “It’s about half a crop,” added Bahnsen.

Drought and heat, as well as winds at the wrong time made for light test weights to take the yield off in a hurry.
