Holyoke and Haxtun jerseys aren’t the only green and red at ag night

On the court, Dec. 19 was a Phillips County showdown between the schools’ high school basketball teams. Off the court it was a celebration of local farmers and everything they do to support the Holyoke and Haxtun communities, the United States and the world.

Ag night featured businesses, a meal and a relay competition that all highlighted the work of local farmers. A dinner served by Holyoke FFA members was made entirely of locally sourced foods. Pork was donated by Seaboard Foods and cooked by Allyn Robinson. Potatoes were grown by Lenz Potatoes, beans by Bieber Farms, lettuce by the HHS plant science class, tomatoes by Vaja Greens. CHS Grainland donated wheat grown by local farmers for homemade rolls as well.

Throughout the evening, the chapter also sold T-shirts that celebrate farmers. Phillips County residents will be able to wear them with pride and show their support of local farmers year-round.
