Housing, child care, workforce and youth highlight PCEDC’s year

Phillips County Economic Development Corporation has several highlights from the past year, and since its annual meeting couldn’t be held April 27 due to COVID-19, executive director Trisha Herman wanted to pass on the good news.

PCEDC is a resource-driven catalyst for economic development throughout the county. Its work is supported by 42 members.

Herman received Northeast Colorado Start Up Colorado’s Champion of the Year Award. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to go to the governor’s mansion to receive the award due to COVID-19.

One big project that Herman highlighted is the completion of a six-month housing study with Hanna:Keelan Associates in January and the establishment of a housing committee to execute the action plan. The results of the study can be found at www.phillipscountyco.org.

Herman was also pleased to note that PCEDC was a part of raising $425,000 for the Holyoke Community Childcare Initiative, which is working on bringing a child care center to Holyoke.

In the area of workforce development, Herman reported that the Homegrown Talent Initiative Grant was received in conjunction with Holyoke School District to create work-based learning curriculum and expand on the careers program.
