Tired of the time it takes to mow a lawn? Say no more! The Husqvarna Automower® is the solution to those long days spent mowing the lawn instead of doing something fun.

S &W Auto Supply in Holyoke recommends using the 315 X model, but there are 10 models available for purchase depending on acreage size.

The 315 X model comes with GPS while some of the less expensive models do not. This makes the mowing process smoother for the Automower® and can be tracked to make sure it is following the guidelines of the perimeter set in place.

Furthermore, the GPS inside of the 315 X model connects to the anti-theft ability that is within it. If the Automower® is taken outside of the lain wired perimeter, it will emit a loud alarm and can be tracked to where it has been taken.

The 315 X model is battery powered, which means that it comes with an additional charging dock where the Automower® will be when it is not mowing.

S & W is selling the 315 X Husqvarna Automower® for $1,799 plus an installation charge. The charge of installation varies on the size of the property.

Although you can self install your own Automower®, S & W recommends that customers pay for the installation fee because they help bury the wire. S & W owner Kameron Knight is working in partnership with his brother, Kendell, who oversees installation.

“It’s nice to be back and working with my brother again,” Kameron said.

The first installation Kendell did was at his own house. Even though this is something relatively new to the brothers, the installation process is simple, said Kameron. They had a Husqvarna representative come to Kendell’s house to see how they did. Both of the brothers also attended webinars and watched videos on how to set up the equipment.

“I was always sceptical of the battery power stuff and the robot stuff. So we waited to make sure the technology was there, and of course we waited probably a lot longer than we needed to. So we installed it at Kendell’s, and it was fantastic. I was impressed,” Kameron said.

To make sure that the Automower® stays on the specific property it is placed on, a wire is put either in or on the yard to set up a perimeter for where the Automower® should cut. The wire is fed 2 inches into the ground which will not disturb the sprinkler system if there is one. The wire is placed 4-12 inches back from the sidewalks and the perimeter of the yard to make sure that the Automower® will stay inside the yard.

As it mows, the Husqvarna Automower® is so quiet that you cannot hear it moving around the lawn, but you can hear it mowing.

The Automower® cuts a quarter of an inch off of the grass with built-in double-edged razor blades, and makes it tiny enough that it becomes mulch for your yard. There is no cleanup to be done after the Automower® is finished mowing.

Also, the 315 X model and all models of Husqvarna Automower® have a shell around the equipment that acts as a bumper. This is part of the model to make sure that if it does hit the perimeter or if it bumps into something in the yard such as a tree stump, it will immediately stop mowing, turn itself around and then begin the mowing process again.

The shell around the Automower® can also be changed for a different color if a customer does not like the color it comes in, which is gray.

The installation process can take up to six hours, but it can sometimes be shorter than that depending on the size of the land.

Although the 315 X model is not four-wheel drive, there are other models that are. Because of this, Kameron and Kendell will assess a lawn before deciding on which model would be best suited for mowing.

If the land is flat and level, the 315 X model is the way to go. If there are hills or if the land is on a slope, there are models that have four-wheel drive that can be ordered.

If there are certain times when the Automower® should not be running, the 315 X model comes with a programming device. This allows you to set certain times during the day to mow, what days to mow, how long it should be charging and more.

The programming device can even be set to be in sync with the sprinkler system in a yard which will make sure that the Automower® will not mow when the sprinklers are on.

The Automower® can mow when the sprinklers are on however. Since its shell is a bumper, it will know when it runs into a sprinkler head, stop mowing, turn around and start to mow again. The Automower® can mow in the rain as well. In setting the times of when the Automower® mows, the programming can be set for night. Because of that, the 315 X model comes with headlights which is more of a safety precaution for people who would see it at night.

Kendell recalls how a neighbor came outside at night because he was so intrigued about the Automower® in the lawn. With the headlights on, it makes it easier for people to see where it is. Because of this, the neighbor saw two bright lights in Kendell’s yard and walked over to get a better look.

Whether it scares or intrigues your neighbors, the Husqvarna Automower® is an innovation to the way a lawn should be mowed. Learn more details at S & W Auto Supply located at 310 E. Denver St. in Holyoke. 970-854-2258.
