Keynote speakers lined up for no-till conference in Burlington

The Colorado Conservation Tillage Association has announced that Dr. David Johnson, Jerry Doan and Willie Durham will be featured as keynote speakers for the 2020 High Plains No-Till Conference Feb. 4-5, 2020, at the Community and Education Center in Burlington.

Headlining the event will be Johnson, a molecular biologist conducting research for the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural Research at New Mexico State University.

His research in soil microbial community structure and function has opened a window for viewing the interdependence between plants and soil microbes, the optimization of which can restore soil fertility; improve crop growth; and increase water efficiency, soil carbon storage and soil microbial carbon-use efficiency.

Johnson and his wife have also been widely recognized for their Johnson-Su Bioreactor, which is a system designed to reintroduce beneficial microorganisms to the soil with biologically enhanced compost.

The second keynote for the High Plains No-Till Conference will be Doan, the owner of the Black Leg Ranch in North Dakota. Doan and his family use holistic management to operate their ranch while regenerating natural resources and allowing wildlife to flourish.
