Marroquins serve up new look, new menu at Brewed Awakening

Husband and wife duo Eddie and Yazmin Marroquin have brought big-city inspiration back to Holyoke after remodeling and relaunching Brewed Awakening Coffee and Bake Shop at 110 N. Interocean Ave.

They took a month to give the main street restaurant a modern feel after purchasing it from Dale Berg at the end of April.

Community members have been enjoying their favorite coffee drinks, sandwiches and pizzas since the soft opening Wednesday, June 1.

While some of the menu has stayed the same, the Marroquins have added their own flair with new, unique items. The menu will be changing constantly, they said, noting that they still have more ideas in mind for their new restaurant.

Eddie gave Yazmin all the credit for the menu. She has several years of experience at restaurants, including working with a number of different chefs at catering opportunities and a pizza truck.

The Marroquins are proud to offer pizza dough that’s freshly made every morning in addition to premium ingredients in all of their recipes. “We wanted to provide something high-quality,” said Eddie.

In the future, they hope to also source ingredients locally.

Early morning delights will include smothered breakfast burritos and biscuits and gravy. On the panini menu, try the grill bill or hungry hippo, or maybe the cuckoo chick or hunpig sounds good in the wrap section. Jamaican red and pakalolo are two of the new sandwiches, and the croissant menu includes bacon me crazy and smancy nancy.

Pizzas are available with either red sauce or white sauce — in addition to a new dessert pizza — and there are several new wing flavors available now.

Premium coffee beans are on hand for the drinks menu, which also includes tea, matcha, boba and Italian soda. The Marroquins are also in the process of getting a tavern license to sell alcohol.

On the remodeling side of things, updates include paint, tables/chairs/booths, counter, kitchen equipment, restrooms and more. There will also be an event room that can hold up to 30 people, and big-screen TVs will be perfect for watching sports and more.

“This is our home,” said Eddie of the downtown building after weeks of remodeling. “We have a lot of passion for it.”

Eddie graduated from Holyoke High School in 2017 and Yazmin from Burlington High School in 2018. The young couple said there’s definitely a shift between generations for a lot of local businesses, so they’re excited that they can invest in the Holyoke community.

This is Eddie’s second real estate purchase in town, and he and his wife may consider purchasing more local restaurants as time goes on.

Brewed Awakening’s soft opening includes carry-out options on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4:30-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4:30-9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.

New hours will be announced after a grand opening and the launch of the dining room.

To stay up to date with Brewed Awakening, follow the restaurant on Facebook or call 970-854-2253. More social media and online platforms will be available in the future.
