MMH celebrates new, innovative 3D mammography machine

Mammography tech Megan Garrett, at right, assisted by Melissa Memorial Hospital CEO Cathy Harshbarger, uses bright pink scissors to cut the matching pink ribbon at the hospital’s new MAMMOMAT Revelation 3D mammography machine. MMH staff members, hospital district board members and representatives from Siemens Healthineers were on hand to witness history being made at noon Wednesday, Sept. 23. At the time of the ribbon cutting, 40 women had already booked appointments for the machine’s first two and a half days of operation. “I’m mindblown,” said Garrett of the advanced technology that only five other facilities in the country have. MMH, with the help of fundraising by the MMH Foundation, has done something that not even large hospitals are doing. “This truly will save lives,” said foundation director Nancy Colglazier. Harshbarger was pleased to announce that $10,000 will be added to the fundraising efforts by the Barnes family, which has a desire to leave a legacy in rural hospitals. — The Holyoke Enterprise | Johnson Publications
