New requirements in effect for CDLs

Beginning Feb. 7, new requirements to obtain a commercial driver’s license went into effect.

Drivers seeking their CDL must now complete a federally mandated Entry Level Driver Training with a certified trainer.

This includes instruction in a classroom as well as the demonstration of proficiency behind the wheel.

The goal of the change is to make roads safer for all drivers and reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. The new requirements set minimum standards to ensure there are more qualified drivers on the road.
