Officer Jorge Salas reports for duty at Holyoke PD

At a ceremony attended by his mother, wife and children, Jorge Salas was sworn in as Holyoke Police Department’s newest officer Dec. 6.
Salas, who graduated from Holyoke High School in 2000, said he was grateful for God and the support of his family for the chance to give back to the community of Holyoke, particularly in his role as the force’s only bilingual officer.
“I’m hoping to use all of my skills and resources to benefit the town,” he said.
Amber, Jorge’s wife, pinned his badge on his chest after he was read the oath of office by Holyoke Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Tillie Fisbeck.
Also present were local law enforcement members, including Holyoke Police Chief Doug Bergstrom and Phillips County Undersheriff William “J.R.” Myers, who embraced Salas and shook his hand after the ceremony.
Salas began work Dec. 10. He brings to the job six years of experience in the Department of Corrections and six years’ service in the Army. He lived in Germany and on the Front Range before returning to Holyoke.
One day prior to Salas’ swearing in, he graduated from the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Academy, from which he received the Max Young Director’s Award — the highest distinction offered to a cadet, recognizing their determination, attitude, leadership and teamwork.
Salas entered the 21-week program through HRLETA after he was conditionally accepted onto the force earlier this year. He was named class sergeant during his training and was responsible for mentoring six other class sergeants and three team leaders.
Salas currently lives in Holyoke with his wife, who is general manager of Cobblestone Inn & Suites. They have four children.
“I can’t wait to get started, really,” Salas said. “I’d just like to thank God and the City for the opportunity to do this.”
