Public comment sought on eastern Colorado deer management plans

Colorado Parks and Wildlife posted three draft Deer Herd Management Plans online to solicit public input on the proposed framework to manage deer populations in eastern Colorado.

Collecting feedback from stakeholders, the general public and staff is an essential part of the CPW planning process.

To provide feedback on deer populations, email wildlife biologist Marty Stratman at marty.strat man@state.co.us. All public comments must be submitted by Monday, May 25.

The management plans are developed based on the history of a herd, biological capabilities of the habitat, public demand for wildlife recreation, and the concerns of other public agencies and agricultural producers. The plans also guide hunting license allocation for fall seasons.

Chronic Wasting Disease is another consideration for management in these three deer management areas. The 2019 CWD prevalence is estimated at over 5% — the statewide threshold for compulsory management actions in all three herd areas.
