Rural Prosperity Tour draws state officials, business owners, others for meet and greet

Colorado’s Rural Prosperity Tour touched down in Holyoke last Wednesday, June 5, bringing the community into a statewide conversation around building up rural economies.
Although Colorado has one of the largest economies in the nation, its wealth is disproportionately concentrated in the urban corridor of the Front Range. The tour gave state officials the chance to prove that Colorado’s economic development priorities include the Eastern Plains.
Holyoke was the third and final stop on the tour, which was spearheaded by Colorado’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and the state departments of local affairs, labor and employment, and agriculture. Phillips County Economic Development also helped plan the Holyoke stop.
OEDIT Executive Director Betsy Markey said the roughly 60 people who attended Wednesday made up the largest crowd they have seen on the tour, which included stops in Burlington and Lamar.
She added that she appreciated the chance to visit with Eastern Plains community members directly and learn how the state can best help rural businesses.
