A small chapter with big accomplishments, FCCLA rewards members, installs new officers

New to this year’s Holyoke FCCLA Member Regonition Program was the presentation of FCCLA Leadership Scholarships, which were awarded to seniors Anna Jelden, Tyler Lamm and Dominique Penzing by Kristin Koch of the FACS advisory committee.
Members of the Holyoke chapter of Family Career and Community Leaders of America gathered at the Holyoke Junior High commons area April 30, along with adviser Karen Ortner and a number of parents and friends who support the organization. Achievements from the 2017-18 school year were recognized.
As Ortner told guests, the chapter is successful because of an officer team that buys into the philosophy of student leadership, members eager to take on responsibility, and parents and community members that realize the value of what the FCCLA experience has to offer.
2017-18 officers who conducted the program were president and district representative Lamm, vice president Kyra Loutensock, secretary Penzing, treasurer Jelden, reporter Brenna Gatton, historian Savannah Burris, parliamentarian Cash Adler and student council representative Makenzie Martin.
Though several were nominated for member of the year, the honor was ultimately received by Loutensock. Throughout the year, she was dedicated and involved, showing amazing initiative, Ortner said.
Loutensock was also installed as the 2018-19 chapter president. Other officers installed were vice president Burris, secretary Bergner, treasurer Oberle, reporter and student council representative Gatton, historian Ashlyn Marcum and parliamentarian Adler.
Linda Jelden, Laura Loutensock and Jessica Cumming were recognized for their service as chapter parents throughout the year. Next year’s chapter parents will be Gloria Bergner, Laura Loutensock, Jessica Cumming and JanisMarie Oberle. Linda Jelden was also honored as a friend of FCCLA.
