USPS expected to deliver price changes

As part of its 10-year plan to achieve financial stability and service excellence, the U.S. Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission on May 28 requesting price changes to take effect Aug. 29.

The changes must be reviewed by the PRC, but the requests are in accordance with approvals that the PRC provided last year.

These approvals include granting the Postal Service the authority to eliminate the inflation-based price cap on rates established by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006.

According to the USPS website, mail volume has declined 28% in the past decade and continues to decline. First-class mail volume has dropped 32% in that same period.
