Wyatt Bishop returns to Phillips Co. as deputy sheriff

In a whirlwind of a year, Wyatt Bishop decided to pursue a career in law enforcement, applied to an academy, graduated and became a deputy with Phillips County Sheriff’s Office. He’s a welcome addition, and Sheriff Thom Elliott and Undersheriff JR Myers said they’re very excited for him to join the “family.”
Bishop had been ranching in southeastern Colorado when he decided to change direction last November. He applied to the Arapahoe Community College law enforcement academy. He was accepted and spent five months enrolled there this year.
Last Wednesday, May 16, he was one of 16 who graduated from the academy in Littleton. Having received an academy completion certificate, he then completed the state Peace Officer Standards and Training test and became POST certified.
During his time at the academy, Bishop was already working with PCSO. His training on weekends and during free time included ride-alongs and familiarizing himself with the office’s communications and policies. On May 21, he was sworn in as a PCSO deputy sheriff by Judge Kim Killin at Phillips County Court House.
Bishop is a 2014 graduate of Holyoke High School and is the son of Nici and Brian Akey of Holyoke and Troy and Charmaine Bishop of Denver. After spending time living elsewhere, he is excited to return to the area. He and his wife, Katlin, who works for Tempel Veterinary Services, have a 2-year-old son, Kyler.  They will be making their home in Haxtun.
