Aspiring bankers among youth on PCFES field trip

Bank of the West opened its doors to an enthusiastic tour from Phillips County Family Education Services’ summer program June 8. Bank employees challenged students to guess which weighs most: 10 dollars’ worth of quarters, dimes, nickels or pennies. They then encouraged the kids to explain their reasoning.

Students split into two groups and took turns touring the vault and seeing the coin-counting machine in action. They had questions for employees about what they do at their jobs and how to work at a bank. Some even said they want to work at a bank when they grow up.

The bank tour was offered as part of the Phillips County Family Education Services’ free summer program. A total of 32 kids and five adult English learners registered for the June 5-22 program, which meets Monday through Thursday from noon-3 p.m.
